In its fifty years of existence as a national park, Kaziranga National Park in Assam experienced its highest revenue influx this year.
During the 2023–24 tourism peak season, the park, renowned for its population of one-horned rhinoceroses, witnessed an unprecedented surge in visitor numbers.
Throughout the current tourism season, Kaziranga welcomed 3,27,493 tourists, including 13,919 international visitors, contributing to a total revenue of ₹8.8 crore for the park authorities.
Arun Vignesh, the Divisional Forest Officer of Kaziranga National Park, attributed the park’s heightened popularity to visits from the King of Bhutan, two Presidents, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a significant development, forest rangers at Kaziranga National Park reportedly engaged and fatally shot a suspected poacher on the morning of May 11. The encounter took place in Agratali, an area nestled within the vast expanses of Kaziranga National Park.
According to reports, the confrontation occurred near a forest camp located within the Rangamataria range along the park’s eastern boundary.
Details of the incident suggest that the poacher sustained fatal gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with vigilant forest personnel tasked with protecting the park’s biodiversity. The park rangers demonstrated unwavering courage as they confronted the poacher, ultimately emerging triumphant in the face of danger.
