Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has laid out the Bharatiya Janata Party’s electoral roadmap for the upcoming Assembly elections, asserting that the Congress has effectively ceded several key seats to the BJP in the 2026 and 2031 polls.
Speaking to party workers, Sarma said the BJP is aiming to secure 50 percent of the total vote share and is unconcerned about opposition strategies, noting that even candidates brought in from outside the state would remain confined to their traditional vote banks.
Women and Youth to Take Centre Stage
The Chief Minister said women are expected to comprise around 30 percent of BJP candidates, alongside a significant push for youth representation. He added that the recent reorganisation of constituencies has resulted in 18 additional Assembly seats, eliminating the need for internal ticket cuts.
PM Modi Visit and Statewide Programmes
Sarma also detailed preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Assam, which will feature a massive roadshow and the inauguration of the Jyoti-Bishnu Auditorium. Several political and developmental programmes are scheduled across the state through the end of December, with river tourism, particularly in Kaziranga, receiving a boost after the Prime Minister’s recent visit.

Alliance Talks with NDA Partners Ongoing
On alliance strategy, Sarma confirmed continued discussions with NDA allies UPPL and BPF, stating that both remain part of the coalition. He said seat-sharing and alliance arrangements are expected to be finalised by April.
Governance Record and Digital Outreach
Highlighting the BJP government’s performance over the past five years, Sarma said effective governance and public engagement have strengthened the party’s connect with the people. He also underscored the importance of social media, noting that he keeps a close watch on opposition activities online.
