American hip-hop and rap superstar Post Malone is set to make his debut performance in Guwahati on December 8, marking a significant milestone in Assam’s push to grow its live event and concert economy. The announcement came today as part of a broader initiative by the state government to position Assam as a major hub for international music events.
Known for global chart-toppers such as “Rockstar,” “Sunflower,” “Circles,” and “Better Now,” the Grammy-nominated artist’s upcoming show is expected to draw massive crowds and spotlight Guwahati as a premier destination for international music tours.
The performance is being billed as Assam’s biggest international concert to date, and comes on the heels of several successful shows by top Indian performers like Diljit Dosanjh, Prateek Kuhad, and Anuv Jain, who have recently played to packed audiences in the city.
With the state’s newly launched concert economy framework now in place, Assam is expanding its focus beyond tourism to build a music and events-driven economy. Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat have been identified as key venues to be offered to event organisers under this new policy.
The event also comes amid growing regional competition, with neighbouring Meghalaya—particularly Shillong—having already established itself as a hotbed for live music. Assam aims to tap into that rising interest and use marquee international events to drive footfall, create jobs, and stimulate local businesses.
Economic analysts predict that the Post Malone concert could lead to a substantial revenue boost for Guwahati, similar to the impact seen during Coldplay’s Ahmedabad shows, which generated over Rs 640 crore, with nearly Rs 400 crore directly benefiting the local economy.
As Assam ramps up preparations, the Post Malone concert is being seen not just as a musical event, but as a transformative economic and cultural moment for the region.
