Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his two-day visit to Assam after launching and initiating development projects worth around ₹23,550 crore in Silchar. The visit included several key infrastructure announcements aimed at strengthening connectivity and boosting economic development across the region.
One of the major highlights of the visit was the Bhoomi Pujan for the 166-kilometre Silchar–Shillong high-speed corridor. The greenfield four-lane highway project, estimated to cost ₹22,860 crore, is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Assam and Meghalaya. Once completed, the corridor will reduce travel time between Guwahati and Silchar from nearly 8.5 hours to about five hours.

During the programme in Silchar, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for an elevated corridor on NH-306 to improve road connectivity in the region. In addition, a new College of Agriculture will be established at Patharkandi to strengthen agricultural education and research in the Barak Valley.
Earlier during his visit, the Prime Minister also attended programmes in Kokrajhar and Guwahati where multiple development initiatives were launched. These included infrastructure upgrades, new railway services and the release of the latest instalment under the PM-KISAN scheme.
