The Union Cabinet has given the green signal for the ₹6,957 crore project to expand and modernize the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of NH-715, including a 34 km elevated corridor within Kaziranga National Park. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and important Union ministers for backing the project.

The project will upgrade the current two-lane road to a four-lane expressway, greatly enhancing connectivity in Assam. One of the notable aspects is the elevated corridor that has been planned to enable safe wildlife crossings, minimizing accidents involving animals and facilitating coexistence between humans and wildlife.

Spanning 85.675 km on the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model, the project hopes to alleviate traffic congestion, improve road safety, and serve as a benchmark for sustainable infrastructure development.

The CM referred to it as a “game-changer” for the state’s transport infrastructure and thanked Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their effort to get the project moving. Construction is likely to start in the near future, with tenders coming in the next 4–5 months.
