
The year 2025 proved to be a landmark period for Guwahati’s law enforcement, as the Police Commissionerate recorded significant improvements in crime control, investigation speed, and prosecution outcomes. With focused patrolling, swift police response, and stronger coordination, the city witnessed a sharp decline in crime and increased public safety.
Crime Cases Decline Steadily, Pending Cases Cleared
Guwahati saw a reduction in total registered cases from 9,393 in 2023 to 5,786 in 2025. The city also achieved a remarkable clearance of pending cases, which dropped from 35,396 in 2021 to just 2,882 by the end of 2025. Enhanced investigation efforts boosted the charge sheet filing rate to 68.34%, up from 42.56% in 2024, while conviction rates rose sharply to 28.5%.
Crackdown on Property Crime and Narcotics Strengthens Security

Incidents of property crimes dropped considerably, with 1,854 cases reported in 2025. The police arrested over 2,100 offenders, recovering nearly half of stolen vehicles and more than a thousand stolen mobile phones. Narcotics enforcement led to 406 NDPS cases and seizures valued at ₹28.86 crore, hitting drug networks hard.
Cyber Policing and Traffic Management Show Positive Results
The Cyber Police Station at Panbazar recovered ₹6.28 crore from fraud victims and conducted widespread awareness programs. Traffic violations resulted in fines totaling ₹50.21 crore, contributing to a notable reduction in road accidents to 1,026 cases, with a record of zero accidents on December 31, 2025.
Overall, 2025 marked a turning point for Guwahati’s urban policing, reflecting stronger public trust and safer streets.
