As of June 2, 2025, India has recorded 3,961 active COVID-19 cases, marking an increase of 566 cases from the previous day. The most affected states include Kerala (1,435 active cases), Maharashtra (506), and Delhi (483).

In the past 24 hours, four new COVID-19-related deaths have been reported, one each in Delhi, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. This brings the total number of fatalities since January 2025 to 32.

Assam has reported five active COVID-19 cases, marking a slight increase after a period of zero reported infections in the state.

Health authorities attribute the recent surge to factors such as waning immunity from earlier vaccinations, relaxed public behavior, and the emergence of new variants like NB.1.8.1, which is currently under monitoring by the World Health Organization.

Despite the uptick in cases, most infections remain mild. However, vulnerable populations, including the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions, are advised to exercise caution. Hospitals in affected regions are enhancing preparedness by expanding isolation facilities and ensuring adequate supplies of essential resources.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare continues to monitor the situation closely and urges the public to adhere to safety protocols, including mask-wearing, hand hygiene, and vaccination.
