Violent protests broke out outside Baksa District Jail today, where the five accused in the Zubeen Garg death case, including event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and manager Siddharth Sharma, were lodged under judicial custody.
Moments after the accused arrived at the jail amid heavy police protection, chaos unfolded. Hundreds of angry fans demanding justice for the late singer clashed with police personnel, pelting stones and torching vehicles. At least three vehicles, including one belonging to a private satellite news channel, were set ablaze.
A woman police officer and several others, including journalists, sustained injuries in the clashes. Police resorted to tear gas, blank firing, and baton charges to disperse the agitated mob.
Protesters were heard chanting emotional slogans like “Joi Zubeen Da!” and “Hand Siddharth over to us!”, demanding that the prime accused be brought before the public.

According to police sources, all five accused — Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Sandipan Garg (Zubeen’s cousin), and security officers Nandeshwar Bora and Paresh Baishya — have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody at Baksa District Jail in Mushalpur.
A senior police official on the scene said, “The situation escalated unexpectedly. Our priority is to maintain order and ensure the safety of all parties involved. We urge the public to remain calm and allow the judicial process to proceed.”
Meanwhile, sources confirmed that the post-mortem and viscera reports of Zubeen Garg are yet to be submitted to the court. The delay has intensified anger among fans and fuelled widespread speculation about the circumstances of his death.
As the situation remains tense, additional security forces have been deployed around the jail premises and nearby areas to prevent further violence.
