The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cancelled the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024 final result just hours after it was declared on February 16. Officials cited an “inadvertent error” in the result notification.

The Commission had published the results, recommending 288 candidates for appointments to important posts, including Assam Civil Service (ACS), Assam Police Service (APS), and related services. However, shortly after, a notification from the Principal Controller of Examinations stated that the result listed under letter No. 460PSC/CON/Exam-37/2024-2025 dated February 16, 2026, has been cancelled immediately due to discrepancies discovered after the publication. APSC has promised to upload a new select list after a careful review of the results.
This sudden change has left thousands of aspiring candidates in uncertainty. According to official figures before the cancellation, 41,612 candidates took the Preliminary Examination in June 2025. Of those, 3,243 qualified for the Main written test in October, and 879 were shortlisted for interviews conducted between January 20 and February 9.
The Commission has not clarified the specific nature of the inadvertent error that led to the cancellation. This lack of clarity has raised concerns among candidates awaiting their future in state administration.
This situation has also drawn criticism from political and civil society groups. Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi claimed there was potential political interference, stating that the result was withdrawn because certain preferred candidates were not included in the list. He argued that this claim is causing “uproar across Assam” and has called for an investigation into the cancellation.
Meanwhile, student groups and candidates are asking for a detailed explanation from the state government and the Commission. They emphasize the need for transparency in one of Assam’s most significant recruitment processes. APSC’s decision to cancel the results shortly after their release is seen as an unusual and troubling occurrence in the history of competitive exams in the state.
Candidates are advised to keep an eye on official APSC communications for updates on the revised result announcement and further information.
