The Assam government has announced that state employees will be entitled to two days of special casual leave in November under the Matri Pitri Vandana scheme. The initiative, aimed at encouraging employees to spend quality time with their parents and in-laws, will provide leave on November 14 and 15, 2025, according to an official notification issued on Friday.

Employees availing the benefit will also be able to club the leave with Sunday, November 16, thereby enjoying three consecutive days with their families. Applications for the leave will need to be submitted through a dedicated online portal, as per the laid-down guidelines.

The Matri Pitri Vandana scheme was first announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his Independence Day speech in 2021, soon after he assumed office. The government highlighted that the scheme is a reflection of its commitment to promoting family values and strengthening intergenerational bonds.

Quoting the official notification, it said, “The Governor of Assam is pleased to allow the State Government employees to avail Special Casual Leave under the Matri Pitri Vandana Scheme on 14th November, 2025 (Friday) and 15th November, 2025 (Saturday).”

The government has underlined that the initiative is not just about leave but about reinforcing the social fabric by reminding employees of their responsibilities toward their parents and families.

With this move, Assam continues to be one of the few states in the country to institutionalize family-centric policies for government employees.
