Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated two new sports academies at Uttar Fulung in North Guwahati, Kamrup district. The projects include a cricket academy established by the Assam Cricket Association and a football academy set up by the Guwahati Town Club.

For the academies, the state government has allotted 40 bighas of land at Uttar Fulung. Both centres will function as residential facilities, offering modern infrastructure and amenities to support young athletes in their training and development.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening Assam’s sports ecosystem and producing players capable of competing at the national level in both cricket and football.

Alongside the sports projects, the Chief Minister also launched a special arms licence scheme for original inhabitants and indigenous Indian citizens residing in vulnerable and remote areas of the state.

The scheme, made available through the Sewa Setu portal, enables eligible individuals facing security threats to apply for arms licences. Each application will undergo detailed police verification, including assessment of threat perception, background checks, and compliance with the Arms Act, 1959, and the Arms Rules, 2016.
