Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has accused Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi of meeting a Pakistani Army official during a past visit to Pakistan. He claimed that action would follow once evidence from Pakistan and the UK arrives, calling it a “serious crime.”
The CM has also reignited controversy over Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi, alleging her ties to individuals connected to Pakistan’s ISI.
In response, Gaurav Gogoi hit back strongly, demanding an apology from the CM for his “disgraceful” remarks suggesting Assamese women compromised their dignity to get government jobs under previous Congress rule.
Women leaders from the Congress have filed complaints with the Assam State Women’s Commission and the NCW over the CM’s comments, calling them derogatory and unacceptable.
The political heat rises as the elections approach, with both sides trading serious accusations.
