The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for several regions across Assam, including Guwahati, amid predictions of continued inclement weather over the next few days.

Following intense rainfall on May 20 that led to severe waterlogging and disrupted movement across Guwahati, authorities are urging residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions. The Chief Minister’s Office has flagged concerns regarding traffic disruptions, waterlogging, and potential landslides in and around the state capital.

The IMD forecasts that rainfall will likely intensify across western and southern parts of Assam, with isolated locations expected to receive up to 200 mm of precipitation. This raises the risk of flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in hilly zones.

Emergency services have been placed on high alert, and local authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the state prepares for more heavy showers. Citizens are strongly advised to stay indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary, especially in vulnerable regions.
