In a significant administrative move, the Government of Assam has notified that 10 new co-districts will start functioning from August 15, 2025. Issued by the General Administration Department under the Governor’s directive, this step aims to enhance governance and public service delivery across the state.
These new co-districts will be added to the existing 39, increasing the total to 49. The co-district system, introduced in 2024, is designed to decentralize administration and improve departmental coordination in Assam’s geographically diverse landscape.
