Social media platform X has announced a new policy. It will suspend creators from its Creator Revenue Sharing program if they post AI-generated videos of armed conflicts without clearly stating that the content was made using artificial intelligence.

According to the updated rules, users who upload AI-generated war footage without proper notice will receive a 90-day suspension from making money on the platform. If the same user commits the same violation after their suspension, they may be permanently removed from the revenue-sharing program, as stated by the company.

Nikita Bier announced the policy change. He said the goal is to protect the authenticity of information shared on the platform, especially during conflicts when misleading content can spread quickly. He noted that improvements in generative AI have made it easier to create convincing fake videos that could mislead audiences.

“During times of war, it is critical that people have access to authentic information on the ground,” Bier wrote in a post on the platform. He added that new rules aim to stop manipulation of the monetization system and the spread of misleading content.

To enforce this policy, X will use a mix of AI detection tools, metadata signals from generative AI systems, and its crowd-sourced fact-checking feature called Community Notes. Posts flagged by these systems may lead to action against the creator’s revenue eligibility.

The platform has also introduced a “Made with AI” label. This label lets creators clearly disclose when content is generated using artificial intelligence. Users sharing such material must use the label to avoid penalties under the new guidelines.

This decision comes as AI-generated images and videos related to ongoing geopolitical conflicts have surged, raising concerns about misinformation on social media. By tightening its revenue-sharing rules, X aims to discourage creators from profiting off misleading content while promoting transparency in AI-generated media.

The Creator Revenue Sharing program, introduced in recent years, allows eligible users to earn part of the advertising revenue generated by engagement with their posts. The new policy shows the platform’s effort to balance monetization incentives with the need for accurate and reliable information during global crises.
