Akasa Air announced that they were able to save an impressive 3.36 lakh litres of water by opting out of the conventional water cannon salutes for aircraft, as they celebrated World Water Day 2024. This annual event serves as a reminder to highlight the significance of freshwater and the need for its responsible and sustainable usage.

Akasa Air, a subsidiary of SNV Aviation Private Limited, operates as a low-cost airline which has its headquarters in Mumbai. Established by Vinay Dube and Aditya Ghosh, the airline has a 46% ownership by investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. Commencing its commercial services on 7 August 2022, Akasa Air initiated its first flight route from Mumbai to Ahmedabad following the acquisition of its inaugural Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Akasa’s disclosure arrives at a time when cities like Bengaluru are grappling with a dire water scarcity during this summer season, witnessing the depletion of borewells and numerous lakes. This water crisis has had a detrimental impact on both the availability of drinking water and irrigation.
