A woman was tragically killed by a tiger while she was tending to her goats near Moorband hill in HD Kote taluk of Mysuru district on the evening of May 25. Her body was discovered on a forest watchtower in the early hours of May 26, Sunday.
Chikki (48), a resident of Malda village, became a victim of the tiger while she was engaged in grazing her cattle on the moorland. The incident came to light when her companion, who was grazing sheep with her, hurried back to the village to alert others.
Officials from the N Beguru forest department visited the scene and investigated. A search operation for the body commenced on Saturday but was hampered by darkness. It was eventually found on Sunday morning at the forest watchtower. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Antarsante Police Station.
Tiger attacks in Bengaluru are sadly not uncommon, with several incidents reported in recent times. On January 5, a woman working in an agricultural field in Hallare village, Nanjangudu taluk, Mysuru district, was severely injured in a tiger attack.
Despite numerous reports of tiger menace in the region, little action has been taken. Last November, a tiger attacked a woman grazing her cattle on the boundaries of the Hediyala range of Bandipur National Park, located in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru district. The incident occurred as the woman tried to protect her cattle from the tiger.
