Government efforts to digitize Waqf-property records in India have reached a significant milestone. The central UMEED Portal Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development was able to register 5.17 lakh Waqf property entries from across the country, out of which 2,16,905 were formally approved.

Launched on June 6, 2025 by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the UMEED portal was created under the amended Waqf Act to bring transparency, accountability and digital governance to thousands of Waqf properties — including mosques, graveyards, waqf-endowed institutions, and land parcels — across the country.
Now, with the six-month window of the portal officially closed-it ended on December 6-authorities confirmed that a total of 5,17,040 properties were submitted for registration, out of which 2,16,905 were verified and approved. Another 2,13,941 applications remain in the verification pipeline, while 10,869 entries were rejected after review.
This mammoth exercise was supported at every stage by the state and union-territory Waqf boards, training workshops, zonal meetings, technical support helplines and constant administrative supervision, underlining the magnitude and imperative for the reform process.
