In a harrowing incident in Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar, a thief stole a car with two children inside and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. The event took place on Friday night when the parents left their children, aged two and eleven, in the engine-running vehicle while they went into a nearby confectionery shop. The police reported the incident on Saturday, highlighting the swift action taken to recover the children and the vehicle.

The kidnapping occurred around 11:40 pm on Laxmi Nagar Vikas Marg. The parents had left their car with the engine running and AC on while they briefly went into Heera Sweets. During this period, a suspect opened the car door and drove off with the children inside. Upon returning, the parents discovered their car and children were missing and promptly reported the kidnapping to the police.

Delhi Police teams immediately mobilized and began a pursuit based on technical surveillance. Multiple police units, including those from Shakarpur and Laxmi Nagar, as well as teams of Special Staff, ANS, and ACP Madhu Vihar, were involved in the extensive search operation. The police tracked the vehicle across various routes as the kidnapper attempted to evade capture. According to Avnish Kumar, Additional DCP East, several Delhi Police teams were formed as soon as they received the information, with at least 40 to 50 police officers in 20 vehicles chasing the stolen car.

The kidnapper led the police on a 150–200 km chase, constantly changing routes to avoid apprehension. Despite these efforts, the coordinated response of the Delhi Police eventually cornered the suspect. Realizing he was being pursued relentlessly, the kidnapper abandoned the car with the children inside in the Samapur Badli area. The children were found safe and reunited with their parents, while some valuable items, including jewelry and mobile phones, were recovered unharmed from the car.

The kidnapper, who was armed with a hammer and a knife, fled the scene under the pressure of the police chase. The police continue to investigate the incident and are actively searching for the suspect. Authorities are also collecting CCTV footage to aid in the investigation. The swift action and coordinated effort by the Delhi Police ensured the safe return of the children and highlighted the importance of rapid response in such critical situations.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities that can arise from seemingly benign actions, such as leaving a car running with children inside. It also underscores the effectiveness of a well-coordinated police response in resolving potentially tragic situations. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on apprehending the suspect and ensuring justice is served, while the relieved parents and community express their gratitude for the police’s swift and decisive action.
