Punjab Police’s Special Task Force (STF) executed a significant intelligence-driven operation targeting Pharma Opioids, resulting in the dismantling of an interstate network engaged in the illicit production and distribution of psychotropic substances.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced this breakthrough, emphasizing that the operation centered on uncovering connections to a pharmaceutical factory located in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh.

This achievement follows a meticulous three-month investigation by the STF Amritsar, which traced the network’s backward and forward linkages. The investigation was initiated following the apprehension of two drug smugglers, Sukhwinder Singh alias Dhami from Kot Muhammad Khan village in Tarn Taran, and Jaspreet Singh alias Jass from Govind Nagar in Amritsar. Their arrests in February, accompanied by the seizure of 4.24 lakh narcotic tablets/capsules and ₹1 lakh in drug money from Beas, provided crucial leads.

The operation spanned five states, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals involved in drug smuggling and supply. Authorities successfully confiscated 70.42 lakh intoxicant tablets/capsules, 725.5 kg of intoxicant tramadol powder, and ₹2.37 lakh in drug money from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.

A FIR has been filed under Sections 22C, 25, 27A, and 29 of the NDPS Act in connection with this operation.
