On Army Day 2026, India’s foremost leaders celebrated the courage, dedicated service, and ultimate sacrifice of its soldiers, highlighting the critical role the Indian Army has in national defense and nation-building.
President Droupadi Murmu conveyed heartfelt wishes to all levels of the Indian Army, marking the day as a homage to the “bravery, commitment, and ultimate sacrifice” of soldiers who remain unwavering in their service to the country. In her message, she stated that the Army has always maintained the utmost standards of professionalism, dedication, and courage — whether protecting the nation’s borders or assisting civilians in times of natural calamities. President Murmu commended the Army’s efforts in recent missions, such as Operation Sindoor, and expressed assurance that it will keep aiding economic growth and inclusive development.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected these feelings in a social media message, honoring the “bravery and unwavering dedication” of the Indian Army. He portrayed soldiers as embodiments of altruistic service who protect the nation even in the toughest circumstances and noted that their commitment fosters trust and appreciation nationwide. The Prime Minister also honored with reverence those who sacrificed their lives in service.

Army Day, celebrated annually on January 15, marks the significant event in 1949 when Lieutenant General K M Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Army following the conclusion of British rule. The day features parades, honors, and military displays throughout the nation.
Together with the President and Prime Minister, top military officials, such as Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, expressed their regards to service members, acknowledging their commitment to protecting India’s territorial integrity and maintaining peace.
Throughout various ceremonies and communications, the recurring theme was clear: the Indian Army’s professionalism, discipline, and sacrifice are fundamental to national pride. Leaders utilized the event to reiterate India’s backing for its troops and appreciation for their steadfast dedication to service.
