President Droupadi Murmu embarked on a significant journey to Mauritius for a three-day state visit, underscoring the enduring relationship between India and Mauritius. Her arrival was met with a warm reception as Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth welcomed her at the airport with full state honours, symbolizing the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.
A highlight of President Murmu’s visit is her participation as the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ National Day celebrations, marking a pivotal moment in the longstanding relationship between India and Mauritius. This prestigious role as the sixth Indian President to grace Mauritius’ National Day underscores the profound connections and shared values between the two countries.
The Ministry of External Affairs described the visit as a “new milestone” in bilateral relations, emphasizing the commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors. President Murmu’s agenda includes bilateral meetings with key Mauritian leaders, including President Prithvirajsing Roopun and Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. These meetings are expected to deepen understanding and foster collaboration on mutual interests.
It is also worth mentioning that President Murmu and Prime Minister Jugnauth will jointly inaugurate 14 India-assisted projects, highlighting India’s vibrant development partnership with Mauritius. These projects reflect the growing expanse and multifaceted nature of cooperation between the two nations.
The visit also holds significance as it showcases the presence of an Indian Navy contingent, along with two ships from the Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron, INS Tir and CGS Sarathi, participating in Mauritius’ National Day celebrations. This gesture reaffirms India’s commitment to maritime cooperation and security in the Indian Ocean region.
