On Saturday, President Droupadi Murmu bestowed the Bharat Ratna award upon five distinguished individuals, including two former prime ministers.
The ceremony for India’s most prestigious civilian award took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday. Late Prime Ministers P V Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, renowned agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan, and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur were among those honoured posthumously. Additionally, Lal Krishna Advani, the former Minister of Home Affairs of India, was also one of the esteemed dignitaries.
According to insiders, President Murmu is scheduled to visit the residence of senior BJP leader LK Advani and bestow upon him a highly esteemed award. This decision was made considering the declining health of the esteemed BJP veteran, Advani, as per their sources.
Jayant Singh, the grandson of former PM Charan Singh, accepted the award on his behalf, while PV Prabhakar Rao, the son of PV Narasimha Rao, received his father’s award. Nitya Rao, the daughter of MS Swaminathan, was honored with the award on behalf of her father, and Ram Nath Thakur, the son of Karpoori Thakur, accepted his father’s award.
The event was graced by the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Congress leader and LoP Mallikarjun Kharge, along with several other prominent leaders.
