Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence in his party’s potential victory for a third consecutive term and mentioned his plans to attend the G-7 Summit next month, contingent upon the outcome of the ongoing parliamentary elections.
The G-7 Summit, an annual gathering of the world’s largest economies, is slated to take place in Puglia, Italy, this year under Italy’s presidency. PM Modi had earlier accepted the invitation extended by his Italian counterpart, Georgia Meloni, to participate in the G7 Summit Outreach Sessions from June 13-15.
PM Modi, before filing his nomination from Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, where he won in the two preceding terms, conveyed in an exclusive interview with India Today that he has received the G7 invitation and is gearing up for the summit post the swearing-in ceremony. Earlier, PM Modi had expressed gratitude to Meloni for the G7 invitation during a call on Italy’s Liberation Day.
The External Affairs Ministry confirmed the receipt of the G7 invitation, stating that the matter was being considered. The ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, mentioned on April 26 that they were aware of the G7 meeting in Italy and would provide further details once available. The Lok Sabha Election results are anticipated to be announced on June 4.
