Voting is underway today across 122 seats in 20 districts as a part of the second and final phase of the Bihar Assembly elections. This completes the polling for the 243-member house.

The Election Commission reports a turnout of about 47.62 percent by 1 pm and approximately 60.40 percent by 3 pm. Key districts recording high participation include Kishanganj at 51.86 percent and Jamui 50.91 percent by midday.

In this phase, approximately 3.70 crore electors are eligible to vote, among them about 1.95 crore men and 1.74 crore women.

Stakes and Regions to Watch

Many of the constituencies going to polls today lie in the Seemanchal region and border districts including Mithilanchal and Champaran, which were bastions in the last election. Political analysts say that the results here could be the clinching factor in the formation of the new government.

During the 2020 phase for the same 122 seats, the ruling National Democratic Alliance secured 66 seats while the opposition Mahagathbandhan or INDIA bloc won 49.

Security, Participation & Campaign Trends

The international border with Nepal has been closed for 72 hours in districts adjoining the border, a step that follows recent security incidents to ensure smooth polling.

Voting started at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm, with several parties mobilising heavily. Leaders from the NDA claim that there is a strong possibility of their re-election whereas opposition figures claim that a wave of change is emerging.

Ahead Towards Counting Day

Once the polling is over, voters and parties wait for the results. Counting will take place on November 14. Analysts say today’s turnout and results in key constituencies will clarify the future political landscape of Bihar.
