Drivers associated with app-based ride-hailing platforms Ola, Uber, and Rapido have called for an all-India strike on February 7. The protest, termed an “All-India Breakdown”, has been announced by the Telangana App-Based Drivers Forum, or TADF.

The drivers allege that aggregator platforms continue to impose unfair and non-transparent fare structures, severely impacting their earnings and job stability. According to the forum, this is happening despite the notification of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025.

The drivers’ body has also criticised both the central and state governments for failing to notify minimum base fares. This, they say, allows companies to increase commission charges while reducing driver income.

Adding to their concerns are rising fuel prices, vehicle maintenance costs, insurance expenses, and operational risks, all of which drivers claim are being passed on entirely to them. These financial pressures, the forum says, are pushing many drivers into debt and unstable working conditions.

This is not the first time gig workers have taken to the streets. App-based delivery and transport workers had earlier gone on strike on December 25 and December 31 last year, two of the busiest days for such services, highlighting ongoing dissatisfaction over pay and working conditions.

With the February 7 strike call now gaining national attention, commuters may need to brace for disruptions, while pressure mounts on aggregator platforms and governments to respond.
