Nayab Singh Saini, a prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana during a ceremony held at the Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh. Alongside Saini, four BJP leaders – Kanwar Pal Gujjar, Jai Parkash Dalal, Moolchand Sharma, and Banwari Lal – also took oath as ministers in the Haryana cabinet. Independent MLA Ranjit Singh was also administered the oath by Governor Bandaru Dattatreya.

Former Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar also attended the occasion, marking a transition in the state’s leadership. Nayab Singh Saini, who represents the Kurukshetra constituency in the Lok Sabha, formally staked his claim to form the government after meeting Governor Bandaru Dattatreya. Known for his influence within the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, Saini assumed the role of Haryana BJP state president in October last year.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Saini secured a resounding victory in Kurukshetra, defeating his nearest rival by over 3.83 lakh votes. The BJP’s dominance in the state was evident as it clinched all 10 parliamentary seats, while the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), in alliance with AAP, faced challenges on seven seats it contested.

With 41 MLAs in the 90-member House, the BJP formed the government with the support of six independent MLAs. Earlier, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar resigned from his position following the breakdown of the BJP-JJP alliance. Khattar’s resignation came after the JJP, led by Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala, decided to part ways with the BJP. Khattar submitted his resignation letter to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, marking the end of his tenure as CM.
