A young girl, who had been missing for nine months from Khowai district in Tripura, was discovered in a village in Rajasthan, as reported by police authorities. Additionally, one individual has been apprehended in connection with the incident, identified as Ashok Kumar Choudhury.
Reportedly, the 16-year-old girl, hailing from Singicherra in the jurisdiction of Khowai police station, vanished from her hometown in September 2023. In a collaborative effort with local law enforcement, the Rajasthan police successfully located the minor girl. She was rescued on May 11 from a village in Rajasthan. Upon receiving this information, authorities launched an investigation and found that the girl had travelled to a village near Jaipur without informing her family. Further inquiry revealed that a local woman from Rajasthan had assisted the minor in reaching the village.
According to police reports, the girl was residing with the accused, Ashok, at his residence. Choudhury was arrested on charges of abduction and presented before the Khowai district court on Thursday. Subsequently, he was remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
The charges have been framed under Sections 417, 366, 366 (A), and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
