Kylian Mbappé has declared his exit from Paris Saint-Germain at the conclusion of the current season, with speculations suggesting that he will soon be joining Real Madrid.
The declaration moves Real Madrid one step closer to concluding their lengthy chase for the French star, who is commonly seen as one of the top players in global soccer.
In June of the previous year, there was tension between Mbappé and PSG due to his reluctance to extend his contract. It seemed probable that he wouldn’t continue with PSG for the 2023-24 season. However, the conflict was eventually resolved, and an agreement was reached between Mbappé and the club, allowing him to stay.
The announcement of his departure from PSG was made by the French striker on social media, where he also revealed that his final home game at the Parc Des Princes will be against Toulouse on Sunday evening. Following his announcement, a wave of emotions flooded the comments section of his post. While some praised his valuable contributions to the club, others criticized him for not being able to secure the Champions League trophy during his seven-year tenure in Paris.
The current season has unfolded in a familiar manner, as PSG finds themselves in a period of transition. Mbappé’s exit signifies the conclusion of PSG’s galactico era, which witnessed the departures of Lionel Messi and Neymar in the last summer transfer window. Additionally, PSG fell short of reaching the Champions League final, being defeated by Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals.
Leaving PSG will not be a simple decision for Mbappé, considering he was born in Paris. He initially joined PSG on loan in 2017, with a mandatory purchase option of 180 million Euros. Since his debut, he has broken several club records, overtaking the likes of Pedro Miguel Pauleta, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Edinson Cavani as the club’s top goal-scorer in history.
