Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated the Imphal-Ukhrul-Imphal Route under the Manipur Helicopter Service today. The event, conducted virtually from the CM’s secretariat, also saw the launch of district transport offices in five districts- Pherzawl, Kakching, Noney, Kamjong, and Jiribam.
The new initiatives aim to enhance connectivity and transportation services in the region. The Manipur Heli Service, launched in September 2018 under, has been successfully operating flights from Imphal to Tamenglong, Jiribam and Moreh. In 2023, new routes were introduced under this scheme including Imphal – Churachandpur, Imphal to Aizwal via Churachandpur, Imphal to Lairouching, and Imphal to Dimapur via Lairouching.
According to the Chief Minister, over 31,163 passengers from different districts have been benefited from helicopter services over the last five years (2018–2023), which have also improved emergency relief, rescue operations, and medical emergency evacuations. An economical cost of ₹2000 per person from Imphal-Churachandpur-Imphal, Imphal-Moreh-Imphal, and Imphal-Lairouching-Imphal has been declared by the Union Home Minister. The district’s residents as well as the state’s general public will benefit from faster, simpler, and more economical air travel with the opening of the new heli route between Imphal and the Ukhrul district. The helicopter flight service fare from Imphal to Ukhrul and back will cost ₹2500 per person.
