In an effort to put an end to rumours over its pre-election seat sharing with the Congress party, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) declared candidates for each of West Bengal’s 42 Lok Sabha seats on Sunday. The TMC’s large Jana Garjan Sabha, which was held at Brigade Parada Grounds in Kolkata, announced the list of candidates.
In addition to women, newcomers, celebrities, and veteran performers, the TMC’s list of Lok Sabha candidates prioritizes members of scheduled tribes, scheduled castes, and Adivasi communities. The party put 12 women on the ballot and nominated 16 current Members of Parliament.
There are 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal; 32 of these are unreserved, and the remaining 10 are designated for candidates from scheduled castes (SC) and two for scheduled tribes (ST), respectively.
