It has been reported by sources that there is a possibility of Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi running for the Lok Sabha election from Rae Bareli and Amethi seats, respectively.
Smriti Irani emerged victorious in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, defeating Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Once again, the Bharatiya Janata Party has nominated Irani to contest from the same constituency.
Rahul Gandhi, the current Member of Parliament from Wayanad in Kerala, is up for re-election in the second phase on April 26. According to a report, the final decision regarding the candidacy of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will be made after Friday, with nominations being filed in the following week.
Sonia Gandhi, the incumbent representative of the Rae Bareli seat, has recently announced her decision to not participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. Consequently, she has vacated the seat, leaving it open for a new candidate. There is widespread speculation that Priyanka Gandhi may make her political debut by contesting for the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat.
In the electorally crucial state of Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party and Congress have reached an agreement. Under this agreement, Congress will be contesting in 17 seats, while the Samajwadi Party will be contesting in the remaining 63 seats.
In addition to Rae Bareli and Amethi, the Congress party will also be fielding candidates in Varanasi, Ghaziabad, and Kanpur. It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister and BJP leader Narendra Modi is also contesting from Varanasi.
Previously, banners showcasing Robert Vadra, the spouse of Congress member Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were displayed outside the party’s headquarters on Wednesday in the Gauriganj region of Amethi. This sparked rumors regarding a potential candidacy for Vadra.
