Google Doodle marked the commencement of voting for the Lok Sabha election 2024 in India by portraying an index finger stained with ink. This symbolic portrayal represents the ongoing voting procedure in the nation as the initial stage of the general election is underway.
The doodle’s visibility extends nationwide, attracting voters from different states to participate in the electoral process. It symbolically represents voting with the iconic mark on the index finger.
More than 16.63 crore voters, comprising of 8.4 crore men and 8.23 crore women, are expected to participate in the voting process at 1,87,000 polling stations today. This initial phase covers 21 states and Union Territories, making it the most extensive phase in terms of participation.
The first stage began on Friday in multiple regions, such as Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, along with certain areas of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Assam, and Bihar. Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh will hold elections to choose their legislative assemblies during this initial phase.
The 18th Lok Sabha will witness the general elections to select 543 members, which will be conducted in seven phases from April 19 to June 1. The voting for Phase 2 is set for April 26, Phase 3 for May 7, Phase 4 for May 13, Phase 5 for May 20, Phase 6 for May 25, and Phase 7 for June 1. The declaration of results is scheduled for June 4.
