Phuloguri Nepali Paam, situated in the core of Assam’s Sonitpur district, serves as the residence for the esteemed Thapa family, acknowledged as one of the most extensive families in the state. As the Lok Sabha elections approach on April 19, around 350 qualified voters are prepared to cast their votes, and the Thapa family’s significant political sway is anticipated to have a profound impact on the region.

On 19th April, the entire family of Ron Bahadur Thapa, comprising of 12 sons and 9 daughters, will exercise their voting rights in the Sonitpur Lok Sabha constituency. Despite having an extensive family network of approximately 1200 members, only around 350 individuals will actively engage in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Additionally, Ron Bahadur Thapa has also left a legacy of over 150 grandchildren.

Furthermore, in the Phuloguri Nepali Paam region, there exists an approximate number of 300 households that can trace their ancestry back to the common lineage of Ron Bahadur Thapa. Til Bahadur Thapa, the village leader and offspring of Ron Bahadur, has provided insights into their family’s heritage, narrating the remarkable journey undertaken by his father and the extensive web of descendants that have flourished over successive generations.

Ron Bahadur Thapa passed away in 1997. Currently, Nepali Pam has transformed into a fully developed village, housing 65 grandsons and 70 granddaughters of Ron Bahadur Thapa. It has been discovered that the family used to reside together, accommodating up to 50 members. However, as time progressed, they began to live separately within the same village. Among the sons of Ron Bahadur who reside in the village are Thamane Bahadur Thapa, Ram Prasad Thapa, Purna Bahadur Thapa, Dhan Bahadur Thapa, Charki Bahadur Thapa, Til Bahadur Thapa, Jeet Bahadur Thapa, Julfe Bahadur Thapa, Jote Bahadur Thapa, Masin Bahadur Thapa, Leela Bahadur Thapa, and Dhanlo Bahadur Thapa.

Despite their strong influence in the electoral arena, the Thapa family faces the challenge of moving forward without their patriarch, leaving a lasting legacy behind.

With the Sonitpur Lok Sabha seat covering more than 16.25 lakh voters in 9 assembly segments, the upcoming elections are crucial for both political candidates and the Thapa family, whose united stance is set to impact the political discourse in the area.
