On Sunday morning, Kami Rita Sherpa of Nepal, also known as the ‘Everest Man’, set a new record by successfully summiting Mount Everest for the 29th time.

The Sherpa guide, who is 54 years old, gained significant attention in the previous spring season for his remarkable achievement of conquering the towering peak twice in just one week. This impressive accomplishment marked his 28th successful ascent. Interestingly, he subtly suggested the possibility of repeating this feat, showcasing his unwavering determination and exceptional mountaineering skills.

Kami Rita, hailing from the Sherpa community residing at the base of Mount Everest, initially started his profession as a porter and later transitioned into a climbing guide. At the age of 24, in the year 1994, he successfully accomplished his inaugural ascent of Mount Everest.

In May of last year, Kami Rita, surpassed his own record by climbing the world’s highest mountain peak, which stands at 8,849 meters, for the 28th time. He achieved this remarkable feat less than a week after setting his previous record.

As part of the Spring Season Everest expedition, he embarked on his latest adventure from the capital city of Kathmandu in the last week of April. Accompanying him on this journey were 28 climbers, forming a formidable mountaineering expedition team.

A group of 10 Nepalese Sherpas, responsible for the important duty of rope-fixing, successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest on Friday. The team, organized by Seven Summit Treks and headed by Dendi Sherpa, accomplished this feat at 8:15 pm.

Mountaineering tourism plays a crucial role in the economy of the landlocked Himalayan nation, with the country generating a total royalty of NPR 674.7 million. Out of this amount, NPR 592.3 million was specifically from permits issued for climbing Mount Everest.
