The launch of AgniKul ‘Agnibaan SOrTeD’ has been delayed for the second time. Originally planned for today at 6 am from Sriharikota, the launch has been postponed without any explanation provided.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is advocating for the privatization and commercialization of the space sector, with Agnikul aiming to carry out India’s second private rocket launch, after Skyroot’s successful launch of the Vikram-S rocket in 2022.

In its inaugural launch, which took place last month, Kairos, a compact solid-fuel rocket manufactured by Japan’s Space One, unfortunately experienced a catastrophic explosion mere second after lift-off. This unfortunate incident occurred as the company endeavoured to achieve a significant milestone by becoming the first Japanese corporation to successfully deploy a satellite into orbit.

According to the company, the Agnibaan is a versatile launch vehicle consisting of two stages, which can be tailored to specific requirements. It has the capability to transport a payload weighing up to 300 kg (660 pounds) into an orbit of approximately 700 km (440 miles). This mission represents a significant technological advancement for India, as the Indian Space Research Organisation has yet to achieve a successful flight with a semi-cryogenic engine. A semi-cryogenic engine utilizes a combination of liquid and gas propellant, making this launch a noteworthy milestone for the country.

Various companies, including both established tech giants and emerging startups globally, are seeking to deploy their compact satellites weighing up to 500 kg in order to enhance their technological capabilities. These satellites are intended for purposes such as accurate climate observation and providing internet access to underserved regions.
