The FIR filed by the CBI has named 20 individuals as accused and unidentified persons. The charges pressed against them include various sections of the Indian Penal Code such as criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, death by suicide, and assist to suicide.

Sidharthan, a 20-year-old individual, was discovered deceased within the hostel premises of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in Wayanad. Tragically, he was a second-year undergraduate student at the time of his passing. It is believed that the untimely demise of this young student was a result of merciless ragging inflicted upon him by his fellow peers. The distressing incident unfolded on February 18, 2024, when Sidharthan was found hanging inside the toilet of the men’s hostel.

The CBI has requested Jayaprakash, the father of Sidharthan, to give his statement. He has been asked by the Kalpetta police to attend the CBI on Tuesday. The officials from the central agency visited Kalpetta DySP T N Sajeevan on Saturday and obtained copies of the documents related to the case. It is understood that the team will file a petition in court to obtain documents, including the case diary.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had pledged to initiate a CBI investigation on March 9, following a significant political outcry surrounding the case. Subsequently, this matter escalated into a substantial controversy, as both the Opposition Congress and the BJP accused the state government of withholding crucial documents from the CBI, even weeks after the assurance was made.
