In light of the persistent heatwave conditions, the District Commissioner of Kamrup Metro has announced revised school hours for all educational institutions across the district. The new schedule will be in effect from June 11 to June 16, 2025, and will apply to government, provincialised, and private schools alike.
As per the new schedule,
Lower Primary (L.P.) Schools will function from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
Middle English (M.E.) Schools will operate from 7:30 AM to 12:00 noon
Higher Secondary (H.S.) Schools will run from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
These adjustments have been made to reduce students’ exposure to peak daytime temperatures and to create a safer learning environment during this extreme weather phase.
Additional directives have been issued to ensure student safety. Morning assemblies are to be held indoors or in shaded spaces, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. All outdoor activities have been suspended during this period.
Schools are also instructed to conduct frequent water breaks—at least three to four times during school hours—to ensure students remain hydrated. Adequate drinking water facilities must be available and functioning across campuses.
To further safeguard comfort in classrooms, authorities have mandated that all ceiling fans be operational and that classrooms remain properly ventilated.
