Jammu & Kashmir Bank partnered with MOOL Sustainability Research and Training Centre (MSRTC) to distribute solar lanterns to 1000 households in Ganderbal district belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. The goal of this collaboration was to offer environmentally friendly lighting options to underprivileged groups, promoting inclusivity and sustainability.
The Bank’s General Manager, Syed Rais Maqbool, distributed a solar lantern to every family from the ST community and other marginalized sections during a ceremony held at a local school in Lar, Ganderbal. The event was attended by senior bank officials and representatives from MSRTC. Upon receiving the lanterns, the beneficiaries expressed their sincere appreciation to the Bank for offering them an environmentally friendly and convenient source of lighting for their homes.
Significantly, several villages in the Chountwaliwar belt, located in the upper reaches of Lar Tehsil in Ganderbal district, have been selected for a project aimed at providing them with environmentally friendly lighting solutions. These villages have a population of approximately one thousand families, with the Scheduled Tribe subgroup accounting for about 46% of the total population. The residents of these villages primarily rely on agriculture, dairy/poultry and livestock farming, horticulture, and beekeeping for their livelihoods. Thanks to the project, the community in this region now has access to eco-friendly lighting options.
