The inhabitants of Kaliabor are feeling anxious due to a mysterious insect invasion that has caused fear and disorder across the area. Known as a stink bug, this insect has created chaos in schools and homes, prompting urgent intervention from agricultural authorities.
Tensions escalated when the bug was initially spotted in a Kaliabor school, shocking the community. Later, it infiltrated numerous households in Dalgaon, leaving residents alarmed and seeking solutions.
In response, a team of agricultural scientists from the Shillong Regional Agricultural Research Centre swiftly arrived in Kaliabor. Equipped with expertise and tools, they began collecting samples of both the invasive insect and the kotoha bamboo, suspected to be linked to the infestation.
Today, another group of scientists arrived in Dalgaon, Akhiranga, to assess the situation first-hand. The presence of the stink bugs has disrupted normal life, causing widespread panic and forcing a local school to suspend teaching for three days.
Reports suggest that the infestation has impacted not only the school but also the surrounding areas, with countless unidentified insects swarming Dalgaon Middle School. Students and staff have suffered from the Asinpokjak, a local term for the pest, resulting in disruptions to education and administrative activities.
Authorities have linked the infestation to bamboo growth near the school, indicating a connection between the plant’s expansion and the insect’s increase. Consequently, the Agriculture Department has launched urgent measures to combat the pest.
These efforts include distributing drug-based sprays in schools and villages to eliminate the insects and restore a sense of security to the community. While the situation remains challenging, officials assure residents that they are diligently working to tackle the issue and prevent further harm.
As Kaliabor faces this unexpected threat, collaboration between government agencies and local communities will be crucial in preventing future infestations and ensuring the welfare of all residents.
