Indian Railways is set to enforce airport-style baggage regulations at major stations, including Prayagraj, Kanpur, Mirzapur, and Aligarh. While luggage restrictions have long existed, officials confirmed that strict implementation will now begin.
According to the revised rules, First AC passengers can carry up to 70 kg of luggage free of cost, AC two-tier passengers 50 kg, AC three-tier and sleeper class 40 kg, and general class 35 kg. Oversized or excess baggage blocking boarding areas will attract penalties, and passengers must book additional weight at the Luggage Office before starting their journey.
“If luggage marginally exceeds the limit, normal rates will be charged. Beyond that, penalties will apply,” a senior railway official said. The Railways also clarified that items like scooters, bicycles, and bulky goods will not be considered under the free allowance.
The move aims to reduce congestion, ensure smoother boarding, and enhance passenger safety across trains.
