India strongly rejected China’s recent attempts of renaming locations in Arunachal Pradesh, denouncing them as “senseless.” The ministry of external affairs reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh is an inseparable component of India and emphasized that China’s attempts to rename areas will not alter this reality.
China recently published a fourth compilation of 30 new names for different locations situated along the line of actual control (LAC) within the north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh in India. The Ministry of External Affairs dismissed China’s assertions, affirming that Arunachal Pradesh is an inseparable component of India both presently and in the future.
In 2017, the initial compilation of the standardized names for six locations in Zangnan, which is China’s designated name for Arunachal, was made public. Subsequently, in 2021, a second list consisting of 15 locations was released, and in 2023, an additional list containing names for 11 places was unveiled.
China has undertaken the task of renaming 30 locations, encompassing a diverse range of geographical features. Among these changes, 12 mountains, four rivers, one lake, one mountain pass, 11 residential areas, and a piece of land have been given new names. In addition to the list of renamed locations, the Chinese ministry has also provided comprehensive information, including precise latitude and longitude coordinates, as well as a high-resolution map, ensuring accuracy and clarity in the identification of these areas.
