Together, Deputy Ambassador of Norway Martine Aamdal Bottheim and Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra signed the paperwork for the fourth phase of the Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI). The goal of this project is to increase collaboration across different health plans.

The initiative was started in 2006 and has since helped several Indian states—Odisha, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir—improve their maternity and child healthcare services.

The Governments of India and Norway are collaborating on a health program called the Norway India Partnership program (NIPI) Phase 3, which builds on the knowledge and insights from NIPI 1 and 2. It focuses on issues related to the health of mothers, new-borns, and children.

The National Health Mission (NHM) is receiving technical, strategic, and catalytic support from the Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) Phase 3, which is in line with the development objectives of the Indian government as stated in its National Health Policy (NHP) 2017.

The objectives of this support are to document and distribute NHM and NIPI initiatives in five NIPI-supported states and one union territory, build innovation development capacities in the public health system, and scale up proven best practices in aspirational areas.

At the community and facility levels, the partnership will continue to innovate, improve, and broaden the quality continuum of care interventions. Additionally, it will successfully aid in achieving the objectives listed in the National Health Policies (NHPs) of the Indian government.

The Norway-India Partnership Initiative (NIPI), which was founded in 2006 as a result of an agreement between the governments of Norway and India, is committed to making long-term efforts to lower the country’s rates of maternal, newborn, and child mortality.

Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are the four high-focus states where NIPI will test scalable interventions in order to provide strategic, catalytic, and innovative support to India’s National Health Mission (NHM).

The achievements of the first two NIPI stages (2006–17) were recognized by the governments of Norway and India, which stated that the collaboration needed to be extended and recognized the beneficial and successful results of NIPI. As a result, the governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Phase 3.

Phase 3 of the project is a continuation of the progress made in Phase 1 and Phase 2. Its objective is to extend its influence to aspiring districts and create a center for innovation. Additionally, the project will prioritize the sharing of successful approaches in maternal and newborn child health, which have been implemented through the National Health Mission and NIPI, to promote global awareness and knowledge.
