India and the member states of the Arab League have reiterated their support for creating a sovereign, independent, and viable State of Palestine. Both sides called for a lasting peace in the Middle East that respects international law and the rights of the Palestinian people.

This commitment appears in the Delhi Declaration, a joint statement issued after the second India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on January 31, 2026. The meeting was co-chaired by India and the United Arab Emirates, bringing together leading diplomats from various Arab countries and the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States to discuss wider regional matters.
In the declaration, both sides reaffirmed their shared goal of achieving a just, lasting peace in West Asia. This peace should be based on relevant United Nations resolutions, the Arab Peace Initiative, and respect for the UN Charter. A key focus of the statement was their support for the two-state solution. India and the Arab League backed the creation of a Palestinian state that is sovereign, independent, and viable, living alongside Israel within secure and recognized borders based on pre-1967 lines.
The ministers also welcomed the outcomes of the 2025 Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, which resulted in a cease-fire agreement in Gaza. The joint declaration stressed the importance of fully implementing that agreement and emphasized the need for ongoing humanitarian access throughout the Gaza Strip to aid reconstruction and relief efforts.
In addition to advocating for Palestinian statehood, the Delhi Declaration showed mutual support for international peace and security while addressing regional issues like counter-terrorism and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
India’s reaffirmation of support for a Palestinian state aligns with its long-term policy of backing a negotiated two-state solution that ensures security and dignity for both Israelis and Palestinians, consistent with international law and various UN resolutions.
This joint statement signifies a noteworthy diplomatic alignment between India and the Arab world on one of the most enduring and complex geopolitical issues. Both sides expressed their desire for renewed efforts toward a lasting peace process.
