The Northeast region is preparing for a week of adverse weather conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts widespread rainfall throughout the area.

This prediction is a result of a cyclonic circulation over Assam and its neighbouring regions, persisting at lower tropospheric levels. To mitigate the potential impact of the weather, an orange alert has been issued by the IMD for Assam and Meghalaya from Sunday to Monday, urging residents and local authorities to be vigilant.

Furthermore, a yellow watch has been put in place for the remaining states for the next five days, advising residents to stay informed. The IMD anticipates light to moderate showers across Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

However, certain areas are expected to experience significantly heavier downpours, as indicated by the IMD. The cyclonic circulation, located between 1.5 km and 2.1 km above mean sea level, is the primary cause of the expected rainfall.

Specific forecasts suggest that Arunachal Pradesh will witness heavy showers exceeding 64 mm until Sunday, while Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive similar amounts through Monday. Nagaland and Manipur are also under a heavy rain advisory for Sunday. Meghalaya is at a higher risk of very heavy rainfall, potentially exceeding 115 mm on both Sunday and Monday.

In addition to the rainfall, the forecast warns of hot and humid conditions in Assam and Tripura, forecasting an uncomfortable weekend. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with the latest weather reports to navigate the adverse conditions expected in the upcoming week.
