On Thursday, Assam recorded its largest drug bust to date with the confiscation of heroin valued at Rs 210 crore in Cachar district, according to the police. Additionally, one individual was apprehended in relation to the seizure.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa shared details of the largest drug seizure in the state, announcing that 21kg of heroin was confiscated in Silchar through a collaborative effort between STF Assam and Cachar Police. A suspect has been apprehended, and authorities are currently investigating to dismantle the drug distribution network.

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam police, acting upon receiving a confidential information, apprehended the automobile in close proximity to Sahidpur, an area falling under the jurisdiction of Silchar police station situated in Cachar district within the southern region of Assam.

According to the report, the individual operating the vehicle was identified as Laldinuwa, the man who has been apprehended. The vehicle, which originated from Aizawl, was transporting drugs concealed beneath containers of bread and biscuits, discreetly placed in the back.

The report highlighted that the police were informed about a substantial drug shipment a decade ago. According to the provided intelligence, the drugs were intended to be transported from a neighboring state to the mainland and subsequently distributed to major cities. Inspector General of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta, head of Assam STF, was cited in the report. It was mentioned that the total worth of this consignment could reach up to ₹540 crore.
