A chilling case of betrayal and murder has emerged from Haryana, where a young model named Sheetal was found dead in a canal near Sonipat with deep slit wounds around her neck. The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) has arrested her boyfriend, Sunil, for her murder.
Sheetal, who was associated with the Haryana music industry, had gone missing on June 14 after she left for a video shoot in Ahar village. When she failed to return, her family — residents of Satkartar Colony in Panipat — lodged a missing person’s complaint with the Matlauda police station. She had reportedly left in a car with Sunil, who is a resident of Israna.
After an intensive search, her body was recovered from a canal near Kharkhoda on Monday morning. A post-mortem was conducted at PGI Khanpur before the body was handed over to her family. The autopsy confirmed multiple stab wounds and deep slashes around the neck.
Police investigations revealed that Sheetal had recently discovered that Sunil was already married. This revelation had led to mounting tension between the two. Authorities believe the discovery may have triggered the murder.
According to officials, Sunil murdered Sheetal by stabbing her and then pushed her car into the canal to make the death look like an accident. His attempt to stage a crash to mislead the police failed, and following his arrest near Park Hospital, he confessed to the crime during interrogation.
A case of murder has been registered, and the accused is expected to be produced before a court soon. Police are continuing efforts to recover the knife used in the crime.
