The Guwahati city is ready to host the 42nd National Arm-Wrestling Championship, one of India’s top strength-sport events, between July 29 and August 1, 2025. The championship will take place at South Point School, Barsapara, and will see top players, spectators, and sports persons from all over the country.
Conducted under the banner of the Indian Arm-Wrestling Federation, the tournament will host more than 150 competitors and officials from 11 states. The matches will be conducted across Junior Boys and Girls, Senior Men and Women, Masters, and a specially designed category for the differently-abled.
One of the biggest attractions of the event will be the “Champion of Champions” title bout in each division, where gold medallists from various weight categories will face off to win the overall championship title.
A Boost for the Sport in the Northeast
It is a big day for Guwahati and the rest of Northeast India, with a national-level strength sport championship event potentially bringing about increased awareness and popularity for arm-wrestling. Organisers are confident that the championship will inspire young sports persons and provide the local sports scene with the boost it needs.
“This is not merely a tournament — it’s a chance for Assam to make itself heard as a serious contender on the national sports scene,” stated a spokesperson for the organizing committee.
Domestic players are likely to play with passion, eyeing to leave an indelible mark on home ground. The championship is also likely to give a boost to the local economy, with increased hotel reservations, food stalls, and transport facilities likely due to the presence of tourists.
