Authorities reported a successful narcotics operation, where they arrested two female couriers and confiscated 20,000 Yaba tablets aboard a Rajdhani Express on Wednesday.
The Government Railway Police (GRP), Assam, initiated the operation at approximately 7 am based on specific intelligence inputs on train number 20503 – Rajdhani Express. In the course of the raid, two female couriers, hailing from West Bengal, were apprehended with significant quantities of Yaba tablets.
Both individuals come from Dinhata Thapu village within the Dinhata police jurisdiction of Cooch Behar district, West Bengal. Sumitra Barman (35) is married to Pradip Ray, while Mamoni Ray (40) is the spouse of Kamal Ray.
During the operation, officials discovered 100 packets, with each woman carrying 50 packets, totaling 20,000 suspected Yaba tablets. According to officials, each carrier possessed 10,000 Yaba tablets.
Furthermore, the authorities stated that the accused women were traveling from Dimapur in Nagaland to Cooch Behar in West Bengal with the narcotics. They were seated in seats 31 and 32 of the A2 coach, as per police reports.
Meanwhile, legal proceedings have been initiated against both women, and they will be dealt with according to the law.
