The 2,568th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha was celebrated with a grand procession in Bodh Gaya, Bihar.
Devotees from various states and countries, including Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Tibet, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Bhutan, gathered to participate. They carried the Panchsheel flag and chanted “Buddham Sharanam Gachchami” as they marched.
Alongside commemorating Lord Buddha’s birth anniversary, the devotees observed Trividh Jayanti, signifying his birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana, all believed to have occurred on Vaishakh Purnima.
A large crowd gathered along the procession route, which concluded at the Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, starting from the 80-feet-tall statue of Lord Buddha.
Bhante Aryapal, a Buddhist monk and participant in the procession, emphasized the significance of the day, noting that the alignment of these events on Vaishakh Purnima is extraordinary and unique to Lord Buddha. He expressed prayers for peace and welfare worldwide, highlighting the diverse participation from countries like Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Tibet, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Bhutan.
Buddha Purnima, also referred to as Vesak or Buddha Jayanti, is an exceptional occasion that commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and passing of Lord Buddha. In the year 2024, this revered day will be solemnly observed and joyously celebrated by countless Buddhists across the globe.
